Moeben is a sportswear line created by ultra marathon runner Shannon Farar-Griefer after realizing the importance and demand of comfortable, practical and protective type clothing for the outdoor enthusiast. All Moeben products are made in the U.S.A. and tested during 100 mile ultra marathons by Moeben
CEO and the Moeben running team.
Moeben began with its Moeben UV protected arm sleeve in a variety of fun colors, patterns and necessary fabrications that range from sporty to sexy! The original Moeben Arm Sleeves were designed to be your partner for the outdoors. Whether you run marathons, play soccer, golf, tennis, ride horses, or any outdoor activity, including gardening, hiking or bird watching, and as you are aware our climate today has changed drastically. Our cool mornings can switch to a hot and sunny day, and this can leave us feeling as if we were not prepared for the change of weather. Moeben will provide you with comfort and protection from the outdoor environment and its constant change, while it helps protect you from the suns harmful rays. With its second skin fit, the Moeben Arm Sleeves will keep you warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s hot. Moeben comes in several UV protected and eco friendly fabrics. These versatile tubes of custom fabrics are made to be used and abused. Pull them up, push them down, switch one with a friend, wipe your nose, or fill
them with ice, just have fun! No matter if you are on mile 99, or pulling the 99th weed in your garden, Moeben sleeves will be there for you!
Moeben now offers a full line of fun and fashionable tech wear! Inspired by the growing success of the
Moeben Arm Sleeve and the importance of the UV fabrics, we felt that there was also a high demand for
comfortable, practical and protective type clothing to protect not only the arms, but most of the body!
The Moeben Mission
Moeben is about providing you with comfortable and protective clothing while you enjoy the outdoors or just relaxing in style indoors. A percentage of every Moeben sale will go to benefit charities.
Here’s how we do it…this applies to all Moeben Arm Sleeves and clothing
Every sleeve is made to exacting specifications. Sleeves come in a variety of sizes to accommodate your
personal fit requirements. The fabric is selected for maximum comfort, protection and durability. Construction of each sleeve is a detailed process with every measurement and stitch accounted for. Moeben follows these standards with each and every product.
Quality control in the factory is just part of it. First, the Moeben Race Team torture tests the sleeves in the
harshest of climates (wind, heat, cold, rain, hail, and snow) and conditions during ultra marathon endurance races. Plus, we wear them out back when gardening and fighting with the rose bushes, or playing tennis, golf, soccer or even on our daily walk. Moeben follows these standards with each and every product.
We are dedicated to making Moeben Sleeves and all Moeben wear an essential part of everyone’s outdoor
experience and wardrobe. That can only happen when we care enough to deliver you a great product.
What makes Moeben Sleeves so special?
All Moeben products are made in the U.S.A. Every sleeve is made to exacting specifications. Construction of
each sleeve is a detailed process with every measurement and stitch accounted for. Moeben fabrics are made
with either our UV 50 fabric, which helps protect your arms from the suns harmful rays or eco friendly bamboo and hemp to help protect our environment. The UV fabric is inherited into the fabric, so it never washes out. And, finally an arm sleeve with a handy upper arm pocket for a gel, musical device, camera, phone, you name it, it should fit
What are Moeben Sleeves made of?
There are several Moeben styles. Our original UV protected fabrics are nylon or poly and are made with a
lighter fabric for the outdoors and can be worn in the cold or heat. Moeben Arm Sleeves were tested in the
Badwater 135 mile race through Death Valley and while keeping the hot sun and heat off of the arms, allowed runners a better performance and fewer challenges with any heat issues that could arise by not covering the skin. Best worn in the colder weather, Moeben offers a light UV protected fleece. The light fleece has also been proven to perform well in the heat since the fleece is a thicker fabric and will hold moisture in which will keep you cool as the moisture is kept in the fabric longer than the lighter nylon or poly. Runners have been known to dip their fleece Moeben Arm Sleeves in river crossings or water and once put back on the arm, their body temperatures lowered immediately helping them to run more efficiently. Moeben also carries an eco friendly line made of bamboo and hemp. Both eco friendly fabrics are anti-microbial, have a natural wicking and natural UV of about 24. All Moeben fabrics are selected for maximum comfort and durability.
Where did the name Moeben come from?
Named after Shannon’s two oldest boys, Moe is 19, and Ben is 16. Moeben is pleased to announce its children’s line of protective arm sleeves, The Moeben “Jet” line, named after Shannon’s newest 2007 addition, her third son Jet!
Moeben - CEO and Designer Shannon Farar-Griefer
Shannon Farar-Griefer’s life as a tomboy in Southern California consisted of being in the outdoors hiking,
skate boarding, surfing, gardening, and riding horses. At the age of 35 and a mother of 2 sons seeking to lose her lingering pregnancy weight, she decided to take up running and ran her first 26.2 mile marathon. Several marathons and triathlons later, she realized the longer the run, the better and started running ultra marathons, her favorite distance, 100 miles! Shannon’s longest run is 292 miles. 100 miles of running can take you from a race start in 30 degree air temperature and snow packed mountains, to 30 miles and a few hours later, the triple degree canyon heat, and that’s not even half way through the race. As the race continues and the daylight ends, runners are once again facing the change of weather with cold and night time temperatures. The inconvenience of changing from a long sleeve to a short sleeve and back again, or having to bring along a jacket and once it wasn’t needed any longer, wondering where to drop it, was the beginning of Moeben. Naturally, climate extremes can take a toll on your body and competing as an extreme athlete, the continuous search of clothes with comfort and protection during grueling running events are also quite a challenge.
In 2004, during Shannon’s Western States 100 mile endurance run, she noticed a lesion on her arm and
fortunately so that one was benign, but it motivated Shannon to start thinking about preventive skin care. Being a mom and an athlete, and understanding the importance of skin protection, along with her own personal scare, she started researching UV fabrics, those with style and more important, comfort and durability. In search of a functional item of clothing to quench both needs (a garment that can cover her arms when needed and one with UV protection), Shannon was unsuccessful and then realized there is a demand, not just for runners, but for everyone who enjoys the outdoors. At 45 years old and two weeks after completing her 3rd Death Valley, 135 mile Badwater race, Shannon was pregnant with her third son, and was put on strict bed rest during her 7th month. A couple months of downtime gave Shannon plenty of time to think about a multi functional arm sleeve. Shannon realized the need for a sleeve that protected the arm, and was worn in lieu of a long sleeve or jacket, and Moeben was conceived! Moeben Sleeves were launched at the 2007 Western States 100 mile Endurance run and were worn on over 300 competitors in the race. Following the race, many of the competitors were also running store owners and started placing Moeben orders days after their race. Moeben went into production full force. Next, Moeben was off to the 135 mile, 120 degree, Death Valley race In July, where Moeben was proven for his durability, comfort and protection in the harshest temperatures and extreme conditions. Shannon saw the excitement and demand for the Moeben Sleeve, and Moeben was off and running and just like Shannon, has not stopped since! From May 2009, to September 2009, Shannon will be competing in five 100 mile ultra marathons, including the Death Valley 135 mile to benefit charity and to test all current and future Moeben products. Shannon and the Moeben team run and test all Moeben products in ultra marathon races before they are put into production.
Named after her two older sons Moe and Ben, Moeben Sleeves is about providing protection, style, and comfort. Moeben was voted the “must have” running accessory for the 2008 year and is now seen on anyone and everyone who enjoys the outdoors. What once started as a necessity from running 100 mile ultra marathons has now evolved into a sporty fashion “must have”. Moeben Sleeves are for the indoor as well as the outdoor. Moeben Sleeves will keep you cool when it’s hot, warm when it’s cold and always comfortable, fashionable and easy to take anywhere! Shannon’s passion for the environment brings Moeben’s eco friendly line made of bamboo and hemp. In 2009, Moeben launched its full line of sport wear. Moeben Kids is available in certain styles. Moeben went from a sleeve, to a line of functional and fashionable wear, for all! Shannon is a wife, philanthropist, ultra marathon runner, motivational speaker, fitness spokes model, and mother of Moe 19, Ben 16, and Jet 2. She lives in So California with her family, 3 horses, 2 donkeys and 2 dogs. $1.00 of every Moeben sale goes to benefit charity. All Moeben products are made in the USA.
Moeben was founded in 2007 and is based in Los Angeles, CA.
